Wedding season on the Oregon Coast is wrapping up for 2024 and with it my time here in the woods.
It’s a bittersweet transition but the timing is right in many ways. Working with my client, Ashley from Cascade Floral Design, for the last couple of months has been such a treat. It’s been years since I’ve had my hands in buckets of flowers building arrangements, and I’ve loved every minute of it. It was such a wonderful change of pace on the creative front and so very healing.
Not to mention working on sandy beaches in the sun with my friend while assisting happy couples on their big day. It was just delightful.
Ashley and I have worked together before so when the opportunity came up, I’m so grateful she gave me the chance to handle flowers again and hang out with her on the weekends.
As we wrapped our last event last night I thought about the change in light, the seasonal shift, and my new directions going forward. It’s a bittersweet, aching transition. Usually, I’m so excited for autumn that my house would be decorated for fall, and I’d be halfway through my freezer meal prep for Nanowrimo by now.
Instead, half my house is in boxes, the other half in piles of organizing giveaways. My time alone in the Siuslaw National Forest is coming to a close. I’ve moved into my studio room in order to clean and organize the rest of the house for sale. It feels too fast, and yet seems to be taking a long goodbye approach. Some days I just walk in circles, unsure what must be done next, then I sit down and weep.
I’ve just been letting those waves wash through me. It’s a letting go process I wasn’t anticipating, so it will take as long as it needs to take—unless a pressure is lit in the form of an offer either for work or a house sale.
There’s more to say on the process and reasons, but I’ll tackle that another day. For now, it’s just a recognition of this change in natural seasons, mine included.
I’m in the process of converting my blogs, rolling my business pages for Elder Glade Publishing, and Guide Star Innovations, and Creative Whoosh to consolidate and rebrand my various pursuits so that once I’m in the drift between permanent places, I have a remote contact point and accessibility for folks. I’ll be around, but likely mobile for a bit until I settle in somewhere. There will be some dust. Thank you for your patience.
Have a wonderful autumn!
